What We Do

The Mission of Bergmann Center, Inc. its to provide Services that Enable Mentally and Physically Challenged Individuals to become Active Involved Members of the Community. Bergmann Center Began several years ago, when parents of 5 area children with mental disabilities formed a day care program known as "The Charlevoix Association for Retarded Children". A women by the name of Lillian Bergmann played a major role in this program from 1957 -1965 serving as their teacher. In 1965 Lillian Bergmann and her Husband Robert opened a work activity center in their home for three adults. In 1967 The Bergmann's home outgrew and they moved to another building. In 1973 the name of the activity center was changed to Bergmann Center honoring Lillian Bergmann for her many years of service to the program. In 1980 Bergmann Center outgrew their location again, and was relocated to where Bergmann Center is now. Today Bergmann Center continues to provide quality services and educate the community to meet the changing needs of adults with developmental disabilities and/or mental illness in Northern Michigan
