We are working to recruit 150 volunteers to join our Literacy Corps, an organized and trained group of volunteers ready to assist children and youth in pre-school, K-12, and out-of school settings and develop literacy skills. The volunteers will be trained by Char-Em ISD?s Literacy Consultants, with United Way leading the recruitment efforts and providing support. United Way will provide support and recognition for these volunteers, and we will also do our best to ensure that we recruit the most reliable and dedicated people to volunteer for you. This service is available to your organization free of charge. While the Literacy Corps is Char-Em United Way?s main educational focus, we are also recruiting volunteers to fill other needs that your organization might require, including as mentoring older children or tutoring students struggling in math, science, or other skills and subjects.
